Design Process - Characters
At Nickelodeon, I lead the full Blaze and the Monster Machines design pipeline, moving ideas from early concept, to fully rendered 3D Maya models. I oversee a team of in-house board artists and am the point person for communication with our international animation studio, where I work closely alongside our Art Director and Series Director. In my day-to-day, I’m frequently workshopping designs in photoshop and creating mockups to better communicate with artists on future direction.
CHARACTERS: directing character design for a legacy property is the fun kind of challenge I thrive off of. My biggest design priority is to keep a consistent visual language throughout the show so every character we design feels organically integrated into the world of the show. Whether this means creating something outlandish like monster-machine fish and sight gags like a “pizza dolphin,” or main characters my approach is to always center show style.
