Design Process - Sets

At Nickelodeon, I lead the full Blaze and the Monster Machines design pipeline, moving ideas from early concept, to fully rendered 3D Maya models. I oversee a team of in-house board artists and am the point person for communication with our international animation studio, where I work closely alongside our Art Director and Series Director. In my day-to-day, I’m frequently workshopping designs in photoshop and creating mockups to better communicate with artists on future direction.

SETS: in our pipeline, boards lock and are completed before the set design process begins. This means I have to anticipate and problem solve for 3D space in a 2D boards environment to make sure all action will translate effectively once moved into animation. Once 3D set design begins, I routinely meet with our Art Director and artists, give visual feedback and execute all approvals for our Concept Art, Design, Model and Surfacing teams.
